Fredericksburg, VA -- AMERICA!, the nation's foremost multi-channel retailer of American-themed products, has announced its contribution for the 2010 Blossoms to Benefit fund-raising campaign. This year, AMERICA! will make a donation to Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center's Nina Hyde Center for Breast Cancer Research in the amount of $22,500.
Each year AMERICA! offers proceeds from seasonal sales of Cherry Blossom merchandise to aid in breast cancer research.
Blossoms to Benefit is the brainchild of AMERICA!'s impassioned President, Jane Crawford, who, after overcoming breast cancer for the second time, seized the opportunity to spread a hopeful message via the business she started in 1988. "A second diagnosis of cancer 7 years out was a profound reminder of how susceptible we may be to the disease. It triggered in me a strong desire to draw on the successes of my business as a means to help others," said Crawford.
The Nina Hyde Center for Breast Cancer Research at the Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center at Georgetown University was established in 1989 as a tribute to Nina Hyde who reigned as fashion editor of The Washington Post for 18 years before breast cancer befell her. She fervently believed in the benefits of early detection and research as the vehicle that would eventually provide a cure.
AMERICA! stores are located at: Union Station D.C., Ronald Reagan National Airport, Fashion Centre, Washington Dulles International Airport, Old Town Alexandria, National Harbor, Baltimore Washington International Airport, and Newark Liberty Airport in Newark, New Jersey.
